What would they do if I wanted to build a Baptist or any other Church in their country? Not going to happen. Neither freedom of speech or religion exist in the Muslims countries. It's their way or the highway.
... their argument would be something like..."then we need to be better than them" or "we aren't a mulsim country, so we should prove we are better".
I was thinking along the same lines though, and wondering how liberals would react to the KKK (which was founded by Democrats) wanting to build some kind of worship center in NYC.
It's interesting that you bring up the KKK, which is a right-wing, radical conservative organization. First of all, they're not a religious group. Second of all, they're a hate-based organization. They are racists. That being said, they do have the right to say their hateful things and they do have the right to organize and march. So while I'm sure plenty of people in NYC would be very unhappy to see some sort of KKK hate church erected, the KKK would still have a right to have their own building.
1st, its funny that you try to label an organization founded by DEMOCRATS as right-wing and conservative. How many KKK recruiters (Robert KKK Byrd?????) do conservatives have in the government (and yes, I know he died, but that doesn't excuse the real racists in this country)?
2nd, you should turn off your out of office repy "Justin", or should I say Sara, or Cindy (not sure which name you go by)?
KKK isn't political, so the question about right or left seems redundant. I think neither side condones their activities. The connection between racism and the right is because racists often have conservative and nationalistic ideas as ground.
As for Justin, KKK might also be resented by the churches but it has it roots by protestantism and therefor had some clashes against catholics among others.
And as for the topic. I'm not much for religion at all, so I would like less of these kind of buildings generally. :)
We are at war with the people behind the building of this mosque, namely radical muslim extremists. If, during WWII, someone wanted to build a shrine honoring Hitler, complete with swastikas, people would have been outraged. The muslim ideology is closely linked to fascism. It endorses violence and elimination of anyone who believes other than they do.....like the Nazis. Were there "moderate" Nazis? NO. So why should we buy into the "moderate muslim" argument? Where is the outrage people? Jeesh!
Here's a tip, Grandpaw: we're not a Muslim country. We're America. We're better than that. We don't chop off people's hands for stealing and we give our women equal rights. All of our citizens have the same rights, no matter their race, gender, or religion.
Just because Islam has a bad image in America doesn't mean we should deny their rights to build houses of worship.
Why do you want to stoop to their level of intolerance. Show them the way through example. Accept them, love them, and support them. Your attitude now gives them every right to be frustrated and hate you.
It wouldn't matter what anyone's attitude was. Americans are hated by radical Muslims because we are Americans. PERIOD. They can't be "shown the way". For radical Muslims, its their way, or death. PERIOD.

When has the Islam religion, earned the right to do anything in this country? How many wars have they fought in on the side of America? They sure fought on the side of Hitler in WWII and they are still fighting against Isrial to this day. I believe in freedom of religion, I believe in freedom of speech. I also believe that I have the right to voice my opinion as to where a church/mosque can be built. If they want it built in New York, built it right next to the mayors house and see how he likes that.
Oh by the way, lets stay on the subject matter.
Liberals never can stay on the subject matter when they don't know what they are talking about.

Are you ashamed of your name or just your un-American attitude. I don't owe the Nation of Islam anything, must less my love and understanding. I never flew hijacked jet airliners into the World Trade Center or the Pentagon. I never killed, unprovoked, over 3,000 of their country men. I am very tolerent of other people and their way of life as long as they don't try and force their way of life on me or my country. I refuse to bow down before another man or his way of life. There is but one true and living God and he was around along time before Allah was even thought about.
I think the flag is fun, and it puts a finger on a finger on an important issue at the same time. Because it says something interesting about the perception of those who are against.
I think we are making a big error when we are bunching together all muslims with the extremists of al-qaeda. If the people who wants to build the mosque not belong to or have any connections to al-qaeda other than their religion then there are no reasons to bind them together. Are we to say that no one of the religion nor the countries from which the terrorists belong have any rights to build anything near ground zero.
I may be wrong but doesn't this all feel a bit simple-minded.
Look....The fact that one calls themselves Muslim means that they voluntarily subscribe to Muslim ideologies. Ideologies which they reaffirm in their prayer time several times each day. We are fighting a 14-century old war against Islam and its adherents, Muslims. And it is a war that they have declared on all non-Muslims as part of their religious mandate, their ideology, to make the whole world Islamic, under the Caliphate, and to convert, kill or enslave all non-Muslims. It is very closely related to fascism with very similar ideologies that embrace violence and murder. Like Nazism, Islam is an ideology one chooses to adhere to. Were there "good" or "moderate" Nazis? If not, then no one can claim that there are good or moderate Muslims as they are voluntarily subscribing to an ideology that advocates murder, torture and jihad and does not permit its followers to cherry-pick which parts they believe in. Islam is an ideology with religious trappings. The Koran can quite logically be viewed as Mohammed's "Mein Kampf" -- it lays out his justification for murder, rape, torture and military conquest on a daily basis. The first principle of Islam, that Muslims reaffirm (auto-brainwashing) 5 times daily in their 'prayers', is that the Koran is the literal Word of Allah (and Mohammed is his messenger). Since Allah provided the laws and form of government in the sharia (Islamic law), and in the Koran there is no reference to democracies, republic, kingdoms or empires...these are all considered blasphemous.
Progressives yet again confuse their beliefs with facts. How? Are you people cretins? Islam is a political party that advocates world domination. Look at what they do, not the lies they tell you (they're told to do so by the Koran- look it up). Progressivism/Communism/Socialism/Marxism etc... ad nauseum, is evil and HAS NEVER WORKED. Look at the USSR, Cuba, North Korea. Even China had to adopt some Capitalism to prevent their country from going down the tubes. The U.S. is the most benevolent country ever on the face of the earth and we got there by Capitalism. We never shot female children running out of a burning building because they didn't have their scarves on! We do not attack civilians in the Middle East. The cowardly vermin who attack our forces and run into mosques, hospitals, marketplaces are responsible!

So,
how will you reconcile our American treatment of women when they try to impose Sharia law here?
